the spinoff x WRESTLER STUDIOS PRODUCTION

A cinematic short documentary series exploring current affairs and contemporary life in Aotearoa.

Each episode of this original docuseries was crafted by different young and emerging New Zealand filmmakers and explores underrepresented perspectives and social, cultural or environmental issues.

After premiering on The Spinoff website, the initial eight episodes ignited conversation and were widely shared, leading to the creation of six more episodes in season two.  

Stories include a kaupapa Māori mental health service provider that is combining tohunga-led spiritual and cultural therapy and clinical methods, an exposé of sexual abuse inside the Jehovah’s Witness Church, a cannabis co-op looking to revitalise Ruatōria and an inside look at what it’s like to work at a small-town brothel.
